The Most Over Used Words in Paranormal Romance

Now I'm not going to say what books I've been listening to on the iTouch lately. I have about 20 to read that I've already purchased by various authors, so I'm not going to name any names. But they are definitely NOT the books by my favorite authors. Those ladies can do no wrong (most of the time).
But I have decided to publish my list of "Most Over Used Words/Phrases In Paranormal Romance. This also includes regular romance novels, too, or at least the racy ones. So here they are:
  • liquid heat
  • velvety softness
  • black eyes
  • silky hair
  • possessive mate
  • emerald/sapphire eyes (depending on the heroine's eye color)
and the most over used word of all time..... BONELESS

Don't get me wrong
, I love my romance and paranormals for escapism. But after reading the last several hundred I've come to the conclusion that we "mundane" humans can never have the kind of love, relationship, orgasms, etc. that the loftly paranormals experience. They wear me out just reading about them. These people can go at it all day long and never tire. I must be missing something in my normal life and after talking to some of my girl friends, I'm not the only one. Not once has someone said to me, "Those vamps/weres/fairies/witches/elves (well, you get the idea) have nothing on me"!
Since I'm not a writer - I have no patience for dialog. Those quotation marks and new paragraphs are a pain in the rear - I really shouldn't complain. But for all of you fantastic writers out there, please remember.... Languid is an acceptable substitute for Boneless.

And, oh yeah, stop calling all of those heroines "Little One". I've been short all my life and was once a tiny little thing. Did men call me "Little One" as a nick name? Heck no! They called me "Shorty", like Indiana Jones' sidekick!
I would love to be able to write though.

Notes to my favorite authors:
Carrie Vaughn - Cormac, not Ben!
Kim Harrison - Not Pierce! I like Al, he has charisma.
Karen Chance - I'm just not sure about Mircea. But Dorina and Louis-Cesare? Thumbs up!

Marjorie M. Liu

I can't mention books without mentioning the website of one of my favorite authors, Marjorie M Liu. The only thing is that I've read all of her books except the Marvel Comics NYX and I expect to buy those soon. Her Dirk and Steele series is fantastic. You can find the books on her "Books" page, and you can also check out Roland's Desk and learn about the characters (primary and secondary) in the books. I hope that more Dirk and Steele books come along although I do understand that it takes the author slightly more time than the 4-5 hours it takes me to read those books.
I think what I enjoy the most about Marjorie's novels is that you don't have the graphic sex that is in the majority of paranormal reads. I'm not a prude by any means, but heck, you can only read about so many people having fantastic sex (in detail) and to be told that you will never come close to experiencing that kind of mind-blowing sex unless you are a vampire's life mate. And I never knew there were so many women and men that were screamers. Anyway, these books are fantastic and half the pages are not porn.

Crimson City

I don't seem to pass by a paranormal paperback book without buying it, and I can't seem to read a book that I enjoy that is part of a series without reading the entire series. Well, I just finished the Crimson City book series and I thought it was great. I actually read them out of order just a tiny bit. I was devouring the books by Marjorie M. Liu and I read "A Taste of Crimson" and that's what made me want to read the entire series. Marjorie Liu and Liz Maverick were my favorite authors in the series and like everyone else, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Liz gives us the final story (Jill and Marius). It looks like I'll be reading all of Liz Maverick's books now.
Who knew that there were so many paranormal authors? Since I gave up eBay (because it has become such a pain in the rear) I've read hundreds of books, mainly paranormals.

I love my 2 grandsons and reading. I like traveling but the only place I go any more is Colorado. Maybe after I move to Colorado I'll travel to other places.
